Poetry

I love writing poems, it’s a bit of an escape, a little something that frees up my mind, so here are some of the ones I like best, each written in under fifteen minutes, to keep it fresh.
Any resemblance to any person; living, dead or unborn, is unavoidable.

Like stars on night’s veil:

Like the stars on night’s veil,

Beautiful as they are,

Would burn you if you weren’t,

Watching from afar,

So are memories of sounds,

Of windchimes that hang,

Where wind visits no more,

Buried, in tales of lore.

Death:

The death of a star,

One of billions,

In a Comatose Cosmos of light,

What would it matter,

To the universe,

For it’d be just as bright,

Just as bright,

As it was before,

Just as luminous,

If not more,

Millions die and,

Billions are born,

What would it matter,
,
If you were dead and gone,

Gone into the light,

With or without,

Putting up a fight,

What for,

Would you battle,

With the angels of death,

What for,

Would you go to war,

For the angels of death,

Whenever time comes,

Come without warning,

No trumpet nor drums,

When they cry once they’ve lost you,

And regret what they did and how it cost you,

They do that for they must,

Their love for you is iron,

Soon to rust.

Their love for you is iron,

Soon to rust.

Hope shall take us:

The end of the tunnel seems dark,

Perhaps it has no end,

Is it really another door,

Or just a familiar bend?

Instances and examples,

Scattered over time,

Survivors of unspeakable peril,

Victims of vicious crime,

They survived and thrived,

It is worth wondering,

From whence,

Such courage, derived,

How they stayed,

Ruthlessly skinned,

Never swayed,

Not with the wind,

How they stood without shaking,

Such milestones groundbreaking;

To live without luxury,

To travel without steed,

To get not a single drop,

When an ocean they would need;

For them to be free,

How could they see,

It wouldn’t be long,

For hope shall take us,

Where we belong.

For hope shall take us,

Where we belong.

Night Light:

A light disrupts,

The dark of the night,

A light of darkness,

Shimmering,

Setting hearts into flight,

How it pains to ponder,

What it could have been,

A long lost wonder,

Beauty yet unseen,

The kind missed out,

by the mind of the weak,

The kind they yearn to find forever,

The one the hearts of the pure, seek,

Myriads exist, not half as bright,

Millions yet more, never outshone the night,

What one could give to be,

In presence of where once was she,

A soul of freedom, a dreamer’s delight,

The kind that escapes when you hold on tight,

The night won’t let her go,

For nothing else ever broke its peace,

And set it free,

And yet, left it confined,

For the night loves too,

Being disrupted,

By the beauty its darkness outlined.

Spirit of Gold:

They said what they wanted,

They did what they did,

They saw now plainly,

What once I hid,

Not a single soul,

Could fathom mine,

None but one tried,

Not a single finger,

Wiped a tear,

While solemnly I cried,

No unidscovered paths to find,

Nothing but what they showed,

Oh how could I leave behind,

My spirit of gold, untamed.

For it shone too bright,

For their liking,

Not another in sight,

Just as striking,

No other light.

From tales of summer,

To fables of snow,

I will be remembered,

Forever, I know,

I will be the one they famously quelled,

My spirit of gold, forever untamed.

Just a rag clothed girl:

They say,

Do what your heart wants you to,

Oh they say,

Do for you, whatever you do.

Do they really mean when they say,

That she could be queen, a simple girl from the gray?

She thought, she believed, the routes her mind conceived.

Oh she would rule the world,

Just a rag clothed girl,

Yes her rags would be royal,

When she walked, blood would boil,

Cause she was what she was and she was a queen,

Not in reality,

But fantasy sufficed,

She was a queen to herself,

She did, without thinking twice,

How they huddled and hassled her existence, they did,

They swallowed their words like a letter they hid,

Locked up tight inside a closet,

Beyond the dark disturbed doors,

She didn’t give up, she couldn’t, of course,

For she only thought,

And her imagination,

Could not take her to eternal damnation,

For she was, after all, just a rag clothed girl,

Whom they treated like queen, in her own,

Her very own realm that was real for her,

Her rags were velvet and the cotton was fur.

Tender Tongues:

Tender tongues intertwined,

Heartbeats synchronised,

‘Tis a story of love,

Raw love, unrefined.

In search for pleasure,

They feed the starving soul,

Candied lips kiss,

Willingly, losing control.

The sun peeks in,

Shadows on the wall,

A touch, a kiss,

A plunge into the soul,

Old times are back,

Of hedonism,

Hyperbole.

Indeed we are,

Human up close,

Human from afar.

Humans that think

Love is all they need,

For the spirits,

That they long to feed.

Time:

Grains of sand,

Slipping,

Out of hand,

The clock’s a ticking,

What is it,

You’re seeking?

Be quick,

Wait no more,

Or else you’ll be kicking,

Yourself for the ticking,

Of time shall go on forevermore,

When you see the chance,

Waiting for a second glance,

Could cost you quite some wealth,

Time creeps up,

With a certain stealth,

To return what you gave,

Time owns you forever,

Perpetually enslaved,

For you may order them around,

Time will control your every sound,

Time will tell whether,

You’re hell or heaven bound;

Time will wait for no one,

And even if it did,

It won’t be long before it’s gone;

For we seem to be addicted,

To the pain inflicted,

By watching the grains of sand,

Pass down onto barren land,

And leave us forever,

Stranded,

To hold, no hand.

Fallen Enough:

I was born to rise,

I was born to fight,

I was born to make history,

I was born to bring pride,

I was born to do things of legend,

I was born not to hide,

I have faltered, once again,

I have stumbled and caused pain,

I have fallen to the floor,

And I swear upon heaven’s door,

I have fallen now enough,

I must sail now, to my shore,

I have fallen now enough,

I will twist the tales of 'lore,

I have fallen now enough,

I shall further fall no more,

When the dark of night is near,

When storm coming, feasts on fear,

I shall not flee, like deer,

Like the lion, I shall roar,

For missed I have, one time too much

And strayed, wanders my soul,

I have no power of the gods,

I wield no mighty sword,

No armour clasped o'er my body,

No chariot burning coal,

No fountain of youth to quench my thirst,

No bolts of lightning for me to throw,

Just hope, truth be told,

For courage, I foraged my past,

But cowardice left me aghast,

From the future both bright and dark,

I borrowed a glowing spark,

I lit a burning desire,

For a journey i will embark,

A journey that brings me the glory I deserve

A journey with demons to slay,

A journey that I won’t ever finish,

If I fail to start today.

And I swear upon heaven’s door
,
I have fallen now enough,

I must falter, now no more.
